To delete a work item in Azure DevOps, you'll need to navigate to the work item itself. This can be done by searching for the work item ID or title in the search bar.

Azure DevOps allows you to delete work items directly from the work item details page.

Once you've located the work item, click on the ellipsis (three dots) at the top right corner of the work item card. This will open a dropdown menu with options to edit, copy, or delete the work item.

To confirm deletion, click on the "Delete" button in the dropdown menu.

To delete a single work item, open the work item, choose the actions icon and select Delete. You can also delete several work items by multi-selecting them from a backlog or a query results list and then choosing the actions icon and selecting Delete.

Here are the steps to delete a work item:

  • Delete a single work item by opening the work item and choosing the actions icon to select Delete.
  • Delete several work items by multi-selecting them from a backlog or query results list and choosing the Delete option.

Understanding the Process

To delete a work item in Azure DevOps, you need to navigate to the work item's details page. This can be done by selecting the work item from the board or list view.

The delete button is located in the top right corner of the work item's details page. To confirm the deletion, you'll be prompted to enter the work item ID.

Make sure you have the necessary permissions to delete work items, as this action is restricted to certain roles. These roles include Project Administrators, Team Administrators, and Contributors.

The deletion process is irreversible, so be cautious when selecting this option.
