If you're a Google Drive user, you might be surprised to know that downgrading your storage can be a cost-effective solution. Google Drive offers flexible storage plans, and you can easily reduce your storage space to save money.
The key to downgrading is understanding your storage needs. According to Google Drive's pricing page, 100GB of storage costs $1.99 per month. This means you can save up to 66% by downgrading from a 2TB plan to a 100GB plan.
You can also consider deleting unused files and folders to free up space. Google Drive's storage calculator estimates that the average user stores about 20GB of data in their drive. By deleting unnecessary files, you can reduce your storage needs and potentially downsize your plan.
Purchasing Additional Storage
You can purchase additional storage as you need it by agreeing to the payment terms in the Google Payments Terms of Service. This will automatically bill you from the date you convert to a Paid Storage Plan and on each periodic service term renewal until cancellation.
To purchase a Paid Storage Plan, you must have a Google Payment account, which you can set up by going to the specified link. You can also find more information about Google Payments on this link.
Your Paid Storage Plan will remain in effect until it's cancelled, downgraded or terminated under these Terms. You can cancel or downgrade your Paid Storage Plan at any time from within your Google Drive storage settings.
If you don't pay for your Paid Storage Plan on time, Google reserves the right to downgrade your account and reduce your storage to limited space levels. This is explained in the Purchase, Cancellation and Refund Policy.
Google will give you at least 30 days' prior notice by email (or other adequate form of notice) of a price increase or storage plan decrease before you are charged.
Downgrade Google One Plan
To downgrade your Google One plan, scroll to the very bottom and find the Downgrade options.
Select the lower-tier package that suits your needs, and confirm that you want to reduce storage.
You'll get a confirmation email, and on the start of the next month of your plan, your plan will be canceled or downgraded.
If you need to migrate everything and cancel your Google One subscription, you can do so by following the alternative steps provided.
