To turn on OneDrive and sync files across devices, you need to have a Microsoft account. This account is required to access OneDrive.

To sign up for a Microsoft account, go to the OneDrive website and click on "Sign up" in the top right corner. You can also use your existing Outlook, Xbox, or Skype account.

Once you have a Microsoft account, you can sign in to OneDrive using the OneDrive app or the OneDrive website. The OneDrive app is available for both desktop and mobile devices.

To sync files across devices, you need to set up OneDrive on each device you want to use. This can be done by signing in to your Microsoft account on each device and following the prompts to set up OneDrive.

You can change the location where your synced folders and files will be stored by clicking the button titled Change Location. Otherwise, click Next.

If you've already been using OneDrive on a Windows computer or other device, your synced folders and files will start appearing in the OneDrive folder on your Mac. If not, the folder will contain a few default folders and files.

To set up OneDrive with automatic sync on Windows Server, download the OneDrive app and sign in with your Microsoft account. Open the OneDrive folder from the app and drag and drop any file into it. When it's done, the blue icon will turn into a green check mark.

Syncing files and folders with OneDrive is a breeze. You can do this using the OneDrive field via File Explorer, where you can sync files and folders to your OneDrive account.

To sync files and folders, simply copy and paste them into the OneDrive folder, rather than dragging and dropping, which can remove the file's presence on your desktop.

You can also set up automatic sync by setting your 'Documents' folder location on your PC to be your OneDrive location, which will synchronize everything saved in this folder with the cloud.

Here are some steps to set up automatic sync:

  • Right-click on the documents folder in the file explorer, and choose Properties.
  • In the Properties window, choose the location tab, and then choose move.
  • Double click on OneDrive, select the documents folder inside, and choose select folder when it’s highlighted.
  • Once done, click OK.

Alternatively, you can use the OneDrive desktop app to sync files and folders, which has a two-way sync feature that allows you to sync files and folders to OneDrive cloud storage account easily.

This will allow OneDrive to work in the background to back up and synchronize your selected folders and files.

Syncing and Folders

Syncing files and folders is a breeze with OneDrive, especially when using File Explorer. You can sync files and folders to your OneDrive account by copying and pasting them into the OneDrive folder.

To avoid deleting files from your desktop or hard drive, simply copy and paste them into the OneDrive folder instead of dragging and dropping. This way, you can have them available on both your desktop/hard drive and your Microsoft OneDrive account.

The OneDrive folder has a two-way sync feature, which means that when you delete files from the OneDrive folder, they are also deleted from the cloud storage account. To get started, just drag and drop any file into this folder, and when it's done, the blue icon will turn into a green check mark.

To enable OneDrive Files On-Demand, you'll need to check if you have the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, which is a prerequisite for using this feature. If it hasn't arrived yet, you can use the Windows Update Assistant to upgrade manually.

The process can take around 45 minutes to an hour, so be sure to take the usual precautions, including backing up your data. Once the update is complete, find the OneDrive icon on your taskbar and right-click it to select Settings.

To enable Files On-Demand, navigate to the Settings tab and look for the Files On-Demand feature. It's located below Notifications, so you'll need to scroll down to find it. Ensure the checkbox next to Save space and download files as you use them is checked.

Alternatively, you can use the Registry Editor to enable OneDrive Files On-Demand. To do this, press Win+R, type regedit, and hit Enter. Then, navigate to Microsoft in HKLM, right-click on Microsoft, and create a new key called OneDrive. Next, create a new DWORD (32-bit) Value and name it FilesOnDemandEnabled. Set the Value data to 1 and restart your computer.

If you're using the Registry Editor method, be aware that this will enable Files On-Demand for all users on the computer. If you only want to enable it for the current user, you can use the OneDrive Settings panel instead.
