Copen's dash attack allows him to slam into an enemy and lock onto it, making it easier to shoot with targeted attacks. He can also use powers from defeated bosses, similar to the Mega Man franchise.

The gameplay is challenging, especially with the Ultimate Challenge DLC pack, which features heavily-altered versions of stages with incredibly difficult final bosses.

Missions

In the story campaign, there are three back-to-back missions in the introduction, followed by a group of four freely selectable missions, and then a series of final missions. These final missions feature bosses that differ depending on whether you're playing as Gunvolt or Copen.

The four freely selectable missions are Infiltrator (Seraph Interior), Chimera (Downtown), Aggressor (Downtown), and Luminescence (Mysterious Manor). Each of these missions has a unique boss that you'll face, and these bosses are different depending on whether you're playing as Gunvolt or Copen.

Here's a breakdown of the bosses for each mission:

Story and Plot

Gunvolt has reached a new pinnacle of power after being spiritually fused with Joule, thanks to the Muse's Anthem enhancing his Azure Striker septima. He's still struggling to heal from the scars of Firmament.

A new organization called Eden, an Adept supremacist group, is making its move to create their own paradise. This is a consequence of Sumeragi being effectively gutted by Gunvolt's actions.

Gunvolt and Copen are on a collision course once again, as they both deal with their own personal struggles and external threats. Gunvolt is aided by kindhearted Quinn and former QUILL agent Xiao Wu, while Copen is driven by his hatred of adepts and his desire to find his missing sister, Mytyl.

Plot

Gunvolt's powers have grown exponentially since the events of the first game, thanks to the Muse's Anthem enhancing his Azure Striker septima.

A great deal of time has passed since the first game, and Gunvolt is now spiritually fused with Joule, who exists as Lumen, her own septimal projection.

Gunvolt's heart still hasn't healed from the scars of Firmament, but he's finding a new compass in life with the help of kindhearted Quinn and former QUILL agent Xiao Wu.

Copen, a human scientist and warrior, has survived Asimov's attack and developed new gear, including the combat support droid Lola.

Mytyl, Copen's bedridden sister, was stolen away by mysterious attackers, prompting Copen to take action as the Adept Slayer.

Gunvolt and Copen have different goals, but they're both determined to take down the new organization, Eden, which is made up of adept supremacists.

The powers of the Muse are on the side of Gunvolt and Copen, but it's unclear whether their efforts will lead to peace or war.

Gunvolt and Copen have faced each other in the past, and their next encounter is likely to be intense.

The two have different attitudes towards adepts, with Gunvolt being more open-minded and Copen harboring a massive hatred for them.

Gunvolt has a new outfit, courtesy of Quinn and Xiao, and the trio has outlined a plan to take out four members of the Seven, a cult called Eden.

These members include Gibril, a young punk girl who can create bladed weapons through metal, and Milas, an environmentalist who can control and move through water.

Gunvolt has already killed the first four members of the Seven, but there's a fifth member, Ghauri, a street dancer and slam poet who can create deadly crystallized weaponry.

Copen and Gunvolt have a complicated history, and their next encounter will likely be a battle.

Gunvolt eventually discovers that Joule and Mytyl are two halves of a whole, with Joule being the adept part of Mytyl removed in an operation that left her mute and sickly.

Zonda, the leader of Eden, uses Mytyl as a proxy to rip Joule completely from Gunvolt's septima and powers their own septima to unspeakable levels.

Finale

The finale of the game is a pivotal moment that ties up loose ends and provides closure for the characters. Gunvolt and Copen engage in a final battle, with Copen determined to kill all adepts.

Gunvolt tries to persuade Copen to spare the adepts, but to no avail. The two engage in combat until one of them is killed.

Mytyl intervenes, demanding that the two stay away from each other. She revives the fallen warrior, whose power is amplified to its limits. The two then battle each other to exhaustion.

However, they decide not to kill each other, thanks to Mytyl's words. Mytyl has regained her voice and is reunited with the essence of Joule.

In Gunvolt's ending, he and Quinn are out together when he encounters Mytyl. She is puzzled and asks if he's an angel, echoing Joule's first words to him.
