Zotero 7 and OneDrive have been integrated to make your research life easier.

This integration allows you to sync your Zotero library across all your devices, including your desktop, laptop, and mobile devices, as long as you have a stable internet connection.

Setting Up ZotFile

To set up ZotFile, you need to install the Zotero add-on. The Zotero application must be installed on your computer first, which you can download from the Zotero website.

After installing ZotFile, click Tools -> ZotFile Preferences in Zotero’s menu to open the ZotFile settings interface. In General Settings, set the Source Folder for Attaching New Files to your download folder, such as C:\Users\username\Downloads.

Set Location of Files to your cloud drive folder, like C:\Users\username\OneDrive\Zotero, where the Zotero folder is newly created in OneDrive for storing reference attachments. On Mac, the directory structure should be similar to /Users/username/OneDrive/Zotero.

To sync your Zotero library with OneDrive, you'll need to set up ZotFile Preferences. This involves selecting the location of your Zotero folder in OneDrive.

First, click Tools and then ZotFile Preferences. Next, select the General Settings tab and choose the location where you usually download article PDFs to your workstation, such as C:\Users\jsmith\Downloads.

Now, select Custom Location and locate the Zotero folder you created in OneDrive, for example C:\Users\jsmith\OneDrive - Department of Health Tasmania\Zotero. Click Select Folder to confirm your selection.

To complete the setup, click Edit, then Preferences, and select the Advanced tab. Under Files and Folders, select the Linked Attachment Base Directory and choose the Zotero folder in OneDrive. Click Select Folder and then OK to save your changes.

Sync Files with OneDrive via WebDAV

Syncing files with OneDrive via WebDAV is a great option for those who want to access their files from anywhere, on any device. This method allows you to mount your OneDrive account as a network drive, making it easy to access and sync files.

WebDAV stands for Web-based Distributed Authoring and Versioning, which is a protocol that enables you to access and modify files on a remote server. You can access your OneDrive account using a WebDAV client or by mapping a network drive.

To set up WebDAV on OneDrive, you need to enable the feature in your account settings. This can be done by going to the OneDrive website and clicking on the gear icon to access your account settings. From there, you can toggle the WebDAV feature on.

Once you've enabled WebDAV, you can access your OneDrive account using a WebDAV client or by mapping a network drive. This will allow you to sync files between your local device and OneDrive.

To link your Zotero library to OneDrive, you'll need to set some preferences in Zotero Desktop. Click Tools, then click ZotFile Preferences.

Click Select Folder, then click OK to save your changes.
